The Corolla Light
“The Corolla Light” is a 14”x18” charcoal/pastel drawing of the most northern lighthouse, the Currituck Beach lighthouse, on the NC Outer Banks. The only unpainted natural brick lighthouse called for color to show off its different look from the other NC lighthouses. I have a hard and fast rule not to force pastels into a charcoal drawing. Trying to hammer a square peg into a round hole is not a good look for any piece of art. This piece became just the opposite after I drew in the pastel sky and pastel lighthouse as there was no place to really get away from color without forcing it. As a result I used charcoal for small things, things that needed detail, or places I wanted to shade and blend. The result was a colorful drawing with a “Saturday in the Park” look, and after working on my detail in the trees and grass, I became really pleased with it. The original 14”x18” drawing from s 525.00. Signed and numbered, limited edition (1000) archival quality prints (11"x14" image centered on 13"x16" Epson hot press 300 gsm paper) are available for 75.00.
